The rich nutbrown smell of oak and maple leaves before decay, 

Overripe apples,

And whitecaps storming the beach the tourists left behind,

Quiet village streets no longer clogged with New York plates, 

And a careless artist who spills her muted palette across my whole world

And makes me smile at the absurdity of well-ordered permanence.
